Tracing its roots to the founding of the Sadler’s Wells Opera Company by Lilian Baylis in 1931, it is committed to bringing opera sung in English to the widest possible audiences in thrilling and theatrically inventive productions. The Company was central to the landmark première of Benjamin Britten’s PETER GRIMES in 1945, and the ENO chorus has continued to be the backbone of many of its award winning productions such as WAR AND PEACE, LADY MACBETH OF MTSENK, and the Olivier Award winning KHOVANSHCHINA, as well as ENO’s iconic productions of RIGOLETTO, XERXES and THE MIKADO. As passionate ambassadors for ENO and singing in English, the ENO Chorus has shown its commitment to bringing the thrilling magic and splendour of the operatic voice to audiences and venues outside the London Coliseum with concert performances of Verdi Requiem in St. Paul’s Church, Covent Garden, and Tippett’s A CHILD OF OUR TIME in St. Paul’s Cathedral. The ENO Chorus has also recently helped to raise funds for the renewal of St Martin-in-the-Fields by singing in a highly successful concert of opera chorus classics in the church itself. | ||
