Satyagraha

In 2007, ENO presented the London premiere of Philip Glass’s Satyagraha. Instilled with breath-taking theatrical flair by Improbable’s award-winning director-designer partnership of Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch, it broke all Company box-office records for contemporary opera. In spring 2010, Satyagraha returns to the London Coliseum and we’re devising a range of exciting ways to share our enthusiasm for it…

ENO Baylis and Improbable present…
ENO Baylis and Improbable are passionate about Satyagraha and want to support a large, diverse group of people to explore it with us. So in early December, we co-hosted an Open Space event. The idea was to bring together a broad range of people to work on the question ‘What projects and events can we create together, inspired by Satyagraha?’ We were delighted to meet with artists, arts professionals, students, academics, teachers, parents, children, teenagers, young adults, community leaders, members of the community and faith groups. People came with the ideas, opinions, issues and passions that are most important to them in relation to Satyagraha, the opera and its themes. The London Coliseum came alive as we chatted, plotted, networked and conjured up ideas for projects and events.
We’re realistic about the fact that we won’t be able to mount all the projects and events that were suggested at our event in December. However, we’re very excited about taking some of them further, working with established and new partners, and creating opportunities for people to explore Satyagraha in a range of innovative ways. Check back soon for further details of how you can take part!
