It was with great sadness we heard about the death of Sir George Christie, former Chairman of Glyndebourne Festival Opera and son of Founder John Christie.
George was a titan of the opera world and one of the most influential figures in the arts worldwide over a period of five decades. He was admired and loved by an international community of singers, directors, musicians and friends and his legacy will be talked about for years to come. Glyndebourne is a truly unique arts organisation with an international reputation for immaculate and brilliantly prepared work supported by what must be one of the most envied and dynamic philanthropic strategies to be seen anywhere in the UK.
His knowledge, enthusiasm and sense of fun – he was wonderful company – will be greatly missed and ENO sends its condolences to Lady Christie, their sons Hector, Ptolemy and Gus and their daughter, Louise.
