The world premiere of Julian Anderson’s first opera opens at ENO this May. A dramatic retelling of Sophocles’s timeless Theban Plays, Thebans is a story of incest, political ambition, love and loyalty which follows the fate of Oedipus and his daughter Antingone.
We recently hosted a panel discussion bringing together Julian Anderson, librettist Frank McGuinness, director Pierre Audi and ENO Music Director Edward Gardner. Hosted by BBC journalist Tom Service, you can listen to/download the full discussion below to find out more about this ambitious project and its journey to the stage.
Thebans opens on 3 May and runs for seven performances. All tickets £5 – £60.
