Finishing the 2014/15 season and opening 2015/16 ENO focuses on iconic repertoire by two of the greatest Russian composers: Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades and Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk.
Led by leading Russian opera expert and University of Cambridge lecturer Professor Marina Frolova-Walker, this unique evening of lecture, discussion and music will explore and contrast the works and their place in music history.
Professor Frolova-Walker will give a fascinating insight into her knowledge of the operas before chairing a panel discussion with Martin Fitzpatrick (ENO’s Head of Music) and Fergus Macleod (ENO Mackerras Conducting Fellow).
There will be performances by members of The Queen of Spades cast Catherine Young (Pauline) and Katie Bird (Mascha & understudy for Lisa).
