Film-maker Mike Figgis makes his operatic debut with a new production of Donizetti’s Lucrezia Borgia

Following the success of ENO’s recent Donizetti productions – The Elixir of Love and Lucia di Lammermoor – ENO stages the composer’s psychologically profound masterpiece, Lucrezia Borgia, for the first time in the Company’s history. It is directed by the multi-talented British artist and film-maker Mike Figgis, with Claire Rutter in the title role and conducted by Paul Daniel.

ENO’s stagings of numerous contemporary operas over the last three seasons have brought together directors and composers in an innovative way. A Dog’s Heart, a De Nederlandse Opera/ENO production, commissioned by DNO and in collaboration with Complicite, is no exception as ENO gives the UK premiere of Russian composer Alexander Raskatov’s first opera, directed by Simon McBurney and conducted by Garry Walker.

Over the last three seasons ENO has built a dynamic relationship with the wider arts. This continues with theatre director Rufus Norris making his operatic debut in a new production of one of the pillars of the operatic repertoire – Mozart’s darkly seductive Don Giovanni. Ukrainian conductor Kirill Karabits makes his UK opera debut conducting an outstanding ensemble of British singers led by Iain Paterson in the tile role, and Rebecca Evans singing Donna Elvira for the first time.
