Martyn Rose appointed Chairman of English National Opera

Martyn Rose, one of the UK’s most successful entrepreneurs and business figures, has today been appointed as the chairman of English National Opera, a role he will take up on 1 May 2013.

 

 
 

Fiona Shaw continues her close relationship with ENO to direct a brand new production of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro

Fiona Shaw, one of Britain’s finest theatre, film and television actors, made her stunning opera directing debut in 2008 with Vaughan Williams’Riders to the Sea. Since then her relationship with ENO has blossomed and her 2010 Olivier nominated production of Hans Werner Henze’s Elegy for Young Lovers was a hit with critics and audiences alike. Shaw now returns to ENO to direct this new production of The Marriage of Figaro.

ENO UK premiere in London: Weinberg’s highly praised and dramatically compelling The Passenger directed by David Pountney

Described as a ‘masterpiece’ by The Telegraph and an ‘astonishing find’ by the Financial Times, Mieczyslaw Weinberg’s opera, The Passenger, premieres at the London Coliseum after its critically acclaimed stage premiere at the Bregenz Festival and run in Warsaw in 2010. The Passenger is directed by world renowned director David Pountney. Sir Richard Armstrong conducts a stellar cast of Kim Begley, Michelle Breedt and Giselle Allen.

A spellbinding tale of intrigue and attempted murder, loosely inspired by an incredible but true story Nico Muhly’s Two Boys, directed by Bartlett Sher is the fifth co-production between ENO and the Metropolitan Opera (the Met)

ENO presents the world premiere of Nico Muhly’s opera Two Boys, directed by Tony Award-winning Bartlett Sher and with a libretto by Craig Lucas on Friday 24 June at the London Coliseum. British conductor Rumon Gamba conducts a strong cast led by Nicky Spence and Susan Bickley. A co-production with the Metropolitan Opera, which commissioned this version of the work, Two Boys was originally commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera/Lincoln Center Theater Opera/Music Theater Commissions Program, a collaboration that fosters the creation of new works. Two Boys is the first piece to be produced from that program.
