ENO 2010/11 Season Announcement

ENO's 2010/11 Season highlights a commitment to reaching a wider audience for opera through an imaginative artistic programme, rich in new productions and dynamic in bringing together creative talent from across the arts. Collaborations with partners around the world are a key feature of the season. ENO is currently working with over 20 international opera houses, joining forces to maximise investment and talent, and to develop productions that would otherwise not be seen by UK audiences.

 
 

Catherine Malfitano makes her UK directing debut with Puccini's Tosca

ENO continues its commitment to refreshing core Puccini repertoire with a new production of one of the composer’s best loved operas, Tosca, directed by acclaimed soprano Catherine Malfitano who brings her insight and experience as an award-winning performer to her direction of Tosca, the opera which she once made her own. Featuring a superb cast led by Amanda Echalaz it is conducted by the ENO Olivier Award-winning Music Director Edward Gardner.

Fiona Shaw directs Henze for ENO and Young Vic

Fiona Shaw directs a new production of Hans Werner Henze's rarely staged masterpeice Elegy for Young Lovers. Following the success of After Dido and the award-winning Lost Highway and Punch and Judy, ENO and the Young Vic reunite in this much anticpiated production. It will be conducted by Stefan Blunier who makes his UK opera debut.

Met and ENO present Nico Muhly world premiere

The Metropolitan Opera and English National Opera (ENO) will co-produce a world premiere production of composer Nico Muhly's first opera. With a libretto by Craig Lucas, the opera is a fictionalised story based on a true story in which a teenager attempts to arrange his own murder via the internet. The new production, directed by Bartlett Sher, will debut at the ENO's London Coliseum in June 2011 and be presented during the Met's 2013-14 season. The creative team includes Sher's longtime collaborators set designer Michael Yeargan and costume designer Catherine Zuber, as well as the acclaimed London-based video designers Fifty Nine Productions and lighting designer Donald Holder.

Double Donizetti in February 2010 with Lucia di Lammermoor and The Elixir of Love directed by David Alden and Jonathan Miller

Two of Donizetti’s most enduring operas Lucia di Lammermoor and The Elixir of Love are staged in February 2010. Lucia di Lammermoor, directed by David Alden, opens on 4 February with the star cast led by Anna Christy returning for its first revival. Jonathan Miller directs a new production, originally seen at New York City Opera, of the popular The Elixir of Love (opens on 12 February) with a strong cast led by Sarah Tynan and Andrew Shore with 1950s Hopper inspired sets by Isabella Bywater.
