ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
Rufus Norris, the multi-award-winning director of such West End and international hits as Cabaret, Les Liaisons Dangereuses and Festen, makes his operatic debut with Mozart's most darkly seductive score. Set designer Ian MacNeil has also won numerous awards, including two Evening Standard Awards (one for Festen), two Oliviers (one for ENO's Ariodante) and a Tony (for Billy Elliot: The Musical).
Here making his London operatic debut, the outstanding young Ukrainian conductor Kirill Karabits launched his four-year tenure as Principal Conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra with a 2009 BBC Proms concert that, The Guardian declared, 'has made Karabits something of a star'. An outstanding cast is led by Iain Paterson as the legendary sexaholic, with Rebecca Evans and Sarah Tynan among the ever-lengthening list of his past and present paramours.
