Remember ENO in your will - Give a gift of lasting value

Sarah Connolly Rosenkav

HELP ENO MAKE OPERA FOR EVERYONE

Take advantage of new tax incentives and consider leaving a gift to ENO in your will.

ENO is creating the future of opera: presenting work that is new, exciting and challenging. Working with creative talent from across the arts, we stage more new productions and contemporary work than any other UK opera company. We have a world-class reputation for distinctive and highly theatrical productions and have a commitment to making opera accessible, engaging new audiences and nurturing British talent.

WHY WE NEED YOUR LEGACY

A gift in your will can help the company to:

Nurture and develop talent

Through our important programmes - ENO Harewood Artists, ENO Opera Works, ENO Trainee Repetiteurs, ENO Junior Singers and ENO Evolve - we continue to invest in the artists and musicians of tomorrow.

Staging ground-breaking opera

We stage more new productions than any other UK opera company. Recent triumphs include Eugene Onegin, The Damnation of Faust, A Dog’s Heart and Peter Grimes. We are committed to expanding the opera repertoire by commissioning new work.

Making opera accessible

We give thousands of young people their first taste of opera in schools with ENO Opera Squad, while Access All Arias, our free membership scheme, allows under 30s and full-time students access to discounted tickets.

HOW YOUR LEGACY CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Leaving a legacy is a wonderful way to continue your support for ENO and enables you to extend support beyond your lifetime. By remembering ENO in your will you can ensure that future generations will experience the inspiration and joy ENO has given you over the years.

Gifts can be directed to any area of the company’s work. Unspecified bequests however, enable the company to put funds where they are most needed.   For example:

£5,000 supports the training, coaching, and mentoring of one of our ENO Harewood Artists

£10,000 funds our ENO Evolve training programme for young orchestral musicians for an entire year

£100,000 commissions a new opera by a living composer

Bequests can also be made to the ENO Trust (Registered Charity No. 278379) which exists to secure the future of ENO by providing a capital reserve specifically for productions. The Trust ensures bequests are used for the long-term benefit of the company.

HOW YOU CAN BENEFIT FROM LEAVING A LEGACY

Now there is more incentive than ever to leave a charitable bequest to ENO in your will. The Chancellor of the Exchequer has launched Legacy10, an independent campaign to encourage people across the UK to pledge 10% of their taxable estate to the arts, culture and charity. From April 2012 inheritance tax will be cut from 40% to 36% for those who pledge 10% of their estate to charity in their wills.

HOW TO LEAVE A LEGACY TO ENO

Including a legacy gift to ENO in your will is easy and can be an effective way to reduce your inheritance tax. Gifts can be a specified sum of money, a proportion of your residuary estate, or one or more specific items of your property.

If you have already made your will and would like to include ENO, you can simply add a codicil making the addition or change. A codicil is a separate legal document amending your will and can be made with the advice of your solicitor.

If you are yet to make a will, first consult a professional advisor (usually a solicitor or your bank).

Support the future of opera with a legacy for ENO in your will

We understand that planning for the future is never easy, but it would help us if you were able to indicate whether you are planning to remember ENO in your will. We are available to discuss possible areas for your support. Please be assured that all conversations will be treated in confidence and will not constitute any binding agreement. Rather, they are an opportunity for us to ensure that we can involve you in the areas of our work you are most interested in supporting through a legacy.  We can also provide you with the appropriate wording for use in your will.

If you are considering a bequest to ENO and would like to let us know of your kind intention, or if you would simply like more information, please do not hesitate to contact us on 020 7845 9430.

In recognition of your kind intention we will keep you informed about the company’s plans with regular mailings, plus there is an opportunity to attend an annual event with company members.

We are extremely grateful to those friends and supporters who have already remembered ENO in their wills.

‘I have put my money where my mouth is and have included ENO in my will. It is easy to put off doing something like this, so I would ask that the only thing you put off as long as possible is dying, and in the meantime include the ENO in your will! Better a worthy cause than the taxman!’
Dr Ken Watters

‘We all have to update our wills regularly. When doing mine I decided to take advantage of the new tax rules and tie down a legacy to ENO. I hope not to be going just yet, but when I do I’d love my gift to outlive me, helping ENO create great opera.’
Sir Peter Bazalgette
