CONTEMPORARY OPERA GROUP

ENO is committed to creating the future of opera by presenting ambitious and highly theatrical contemporary productions that push the boundaries of the art form and resonate with modern life.

·        We pioneer new work by many of the world’s greatest living composers, including John Adams, Harrison Birtwistle and Philip Glass.

·        We create a platform for new generations of creative talent, such as US composer Nico Muhly and UK director Sam Brown.

·        ENO is a testing ground for music, performance, art, design and technology, bringing cutting-edge video directors such as Fifty Nine Productions together with innovative performance groups such as La Fura dels Baus and Punchdrunk.

·        We encourage new and diverse audiences to develop a passion for opera through highly imaginative works such as Ligeti’s Le Grand Macabre and Rastakov’s A Dog’s Heart, which challenge traditional preconceptions of what opera should be.

Members of ENO’s Contemporary Opera Group share our commitment to bringing pioneering new commissions and contemporary works to the international stage.  By joining the Contemporary Opera Group, you will help ENO achieve its vision to establish opera as the most vital, relevant and challenging art form of our time.

Members of the Contemporary Opera Group are asked to make an annual donation of £5,000 for at least three years. Each season, the Group directly supports one new or recent work by a contemporary composer, often a UK or world premiere.

For donors who wish to make a very significant contribution to contemporary opera at ENO, a gift of £20,000 or more can be directed to a specific production of your choice.

To discuss this opportunity in detail or to learn more about contemporary opera at ENO, please contact Darryl de Prez, Head of Major Donor Development, on 020 7845 9494, or ddeprez@eno.org.

How Your Money Helps

Doctor-Atomic_credit-Catherine-Ashmore

Even with healthy ticket sales, the expense of running a full-time repertory opera company cannot be covered by ticket sales and public funding alone. Learn more about how your donations help us to cover the cost of producing opera.

Funding Sources

Opera is an expensive business. Arts Council support accounts for half of our funding. Every £1 from public sources is matched by income generated by ENO.
