Music Director's Circle

Special Projects

Individuals provide crucial funding for ENO’s many activities, ranging from specific productions to our Young Singers. It is our goal to strengthen our connection with our individual supporters and to involve you more with what you love about ENO.

The Music Director’s Circle

Established in 2008, The Music Director’s Circle is a small, enlightened group of supporters who invest in this pivotal role.

The Music Director is at the heart of ENO’s work.  Driving the company musically and inputting into many areas of the Company’s work from repertoire to casting.

ENO has an unrivalled tradition of championing some of the foremost British conductors of the last 50 years.  Previous Music Directors have included Reginald Goodall, Sir Charles Groves, Mark Elder and Paul Daniel.  The current incumbent, Edward Gardner, is one of the most talented and exciting conductors of his generation.

Assuming the position in 2007, Edward has lost no time in dramatically raising the musical standards of the Company.  He has conducted some outstanding performances, including Death in Venice, Rosenkavalier, Cav and Pag, Boris Godunov, Peter Grimes, L’Amour de Loin, Turandot, Bluebeard’s Castle and The Rite of Spring.  He won the 2009 Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Opera for his ENO productions of 2008.

How Your Money Helps

Doctor-Atomic_credit-Catherine-Ashmore

Even with healthy ticket sales, the expense of running a full-time repertory opera company cannot be covered by ticket sales and public funding alone. Learn more about how your donations help us to cover the cost of producing opera.

Opera is an expensive business. Arts Council support accounts for half of our funding. Every £1 from public sources is matched by income generated by ENO.
