Production Support

Each season ENO seeks enlightened individuals to join our production syndicates to help us bring ambitious projects to fruition. Great art has never been easy to create or to fund and it takes particular conviction to invest in new productions.
ENO BAROQUE CIRCLE
Over more than thirty years ENO has developed a worldwide reputation for championing Handel’s operas for today’s audiences, presenting strongly-cast, theatrical and adventurous new productions of works such as Partenope, Agrippina and Radamisto.
During 2012 and 2013 we will continue our pioneering Handel programme while showcasing the work of a fellow master of Baroque opera, Marc-Antoine Charpentier, for the first time on the London Coliseum stage.
In October 2012 ENO premieres a new production of one of Handel’s best-loved operas, Julius Caesar. The superb cast features Lawrence Zazzo, Patricia Bardon, Anna Christy, Daniela Mack and Tim Mead. The production will be directed by Michael Keegan-Dolan, Artistic Director of Fabulous Beast, and Christian Curnyn, founder of the Early Opera Group, will conduct.
In February 2013 ENO will present an opera by one of the most prolific and versatile composers of the seventeenth century, Marc-Antoine Charpentier. Medea is a landmark production for ENO and a rare opportunity for British audiences to experience one of the masterpieces of the French Baroque repertoire, brought to vivid life by acclaimed director David McVicar with world-renowned mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly in the title role. Conducted once again by Baroque specialist Christian Curnyn, Medea will be a fascinating companion-piece to Julius Caesar.
ENO has enlisted two directors whose unique talents are ideally suited to bring these Baroque masterpieces to life for today’s audiences.
Michael Keegan-Dolan is one of the world’s leading choreographers, as well as an accomplished director. His unique blend of movement, dance and physical theatre will result in a thrilling new vision of Julius Caesar which translates Baroque tradition into twenty-first century theatricality.
Medea is a project close to David McVicar’s heart. He is a gifted story-teller who will bring this intensely dramatic legend to life with the clarity, insightand intelligence which have made his past ENO productions hugely popular.
