English Opera Group
english opera group
English-language opera is at the core of ENO’s founding principles. In future seasons we will be reinforcing this commitment by placing English opera at the heart of our programming. The foundation of this is the work of Benjamin Britten. Over the next five years, ENO will perform one work of Benjamin Britten in each season, as well as showcase productions of favourite British composers. We are delighted to be creating the English Opera Group which will support this initiative over the forthcoming years.

The English Opera Group is named after Britten’s company of performers which he created to perform his operatic works. Our annual Britten production and our focus on English composers in each season will require significant investment from enlightened donors. Donations of £5,000 per year for the next three years are sought to contribute to the production costs. Members of the English Opera Group giving at the level of £10,000 per year will receive recognition as Founding Patrons of the English Opera Group.
Opportunities for involvement
ENO will offer members of the Group the following opportunities for involvement:

  • Members of the English Opera Group will be invited to meet with cast and production teams of our season’s English-language operas at the Coliseum

  • Each season’s Britten opera will be preceded with a lecture by ENO’s own in-house Britten scholar and editor of Britten’s Letters, Philip Reed.

  • English Opera Group members will be invited to rehearsals of the season’s English-language operas as well as to discussion events and model showings with production teams.

  • Members will receive press packs of relevant production cuttings.

  • ENO will arrange bespoke visits, access and talks for members with a particular interest in any production or aspect of the English Opera Group, to be determined by each individual supporter.
