The brief

It’s Mr Client’s birthday next week. He mentioned to his wife he wants to give theatre a go, he hasn’t been for years.

She fills out the enquiry form, although she’s not sure exactly what she wants to do – maybe a private box?

The Proposal

The next day, her dedicated Event Manager gets in touch – we regularly host special birthday celebrations and suggest a few options:

(1) A private box with drinks and nibbles to enjoy the show in style.

(2) An exclusive theatre tour followed by birthday private dining and great auditorium seats.

Her Event Manager talks through our upcoming shows, and they find the perfect show that Mr Client will love.

She loves the sound of both options, and as she wants to bring the whole family she asks for both options combined – and asks if we can help make it all a surprise for him! She’ll tell him about the tour, but nothing else.

On the night

The Client family arrive 1½ hours before the show. Their Event Manager welcomes them to the theatre, and takes them on a special tour where they get the chance to take a family photo on the stage!

After a fascinating half hour learning about the theatre, the tour ends in the cosy Harewood Room. To Mr Client’s surprise his name is on the room, and in the room finds champagne waiting for him, along with a birthday card from ENO – amazingly it even has a gift ENO Friends Membership, courtesy of the ENO Events team.

The family enjoys starters and mains along with some great drinks. Their Event Manager shows them to their private Box which has more drinks on ice ready for them to enjoy during the show.

At the interval, they return to their private dining space for dessert – SURPRISE – there’s a birthday cake Mrs Client picked out. They enjoy cake with tea & coffee before going back in for the rest of the show.

At the end of the show, the rest of the cake is boxed up to take home, and it’s lovely to use the private facilities without queueing at the cloakroom before leaving.

After the night-of

A few days later Mrs Client’s Event Manager gets in touch to make sure they had a great time, and sends her the invoice.

She pays by debit/credit card or BACs transfer.

It’s time to start planning next year’s birthday surprise!
