Flys Technician

We are seeking an experienced Flys Technician to join our team for our 2025-2026 opera season.

Flys Technicians support the Head of Flys and Rigging and the wider production team in delivering safe and effective scenic flying, rigging, and stage operations throughout all phases of production from fit-ups and rehearsals to performances and get-outs. This role plays a key part in maintaining high safety standards, participating in risk assessments, and ensuring smooth collaboration across departments.

 

Contract dates: 08/09/2025-21/12/2025 and 19/01/2026- 01/03/2026

 

 

Requirements:

  • Experience of operating a counterweight flying system
  • Excellent knot tying skills
  • Knowledge of rigging and ability to assist in the preparation, organisation and building of truss and rigging on stage
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of current scenic construction practice and scenic equipment
  • Excellent knowledge and practical experience of safe working practices within a theatrical environment; a practical working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation including LOLER and PUWER with the ability to carry out effective risk assessments, method statements
  • Ability to work at height, use stage-related access equipment and PPE
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently, under minimum supervision
  • A proactive, flexible, collaborative and conscientious approach to work with an open mind to new or different ways of working
  • Good punctuality and the ability to set an example to others, always exhibiting a professional attitude
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with colleagues and staff at all levels
