Transport, Logistics & Store Manager

The Role

The Transport and Stores Department is part of the Technical Department and provides transport services to ENO and outside companies related to ENO as required.

The Transport and Stores Manager reports to the Technical Director and manages the operation and control of the Storage facilities of ENO. In addition, they must be able to drive HGV’s as and when necessary as well as manage the Transport and Logistics for the ENO technical Department as well the Driver/Supervisor and Drivers within the department.

Transport and Logistics

It is a requirement of the position that the job holder holds a clean driver’s licence and an HGV driver’s licence:

  • Valid C+E Class 1 Licence with no more than six (6) penalty points
  • Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) card with no current suspension or revocation
  • Ideally a knowledge of driving in Central London
  • Ideally a Forklift Truck operations qualification, licence or a RTITB recognised certificate of forklift training.
  • Be able to manage the effective running of transport services by ensuring a high service is provided in the transportation of ENO’s property to and from ENO stores, properties, outside rehearsal rooms as well as too, from and between contractors.
  • Communicate and efficiently co-ordinate transport services throughout the Technical and other ENO departments through a forward-looking planning schedule making sure all necessary departments are aware and can input requests into it.
  • Ensure that all international freight / logistics and liaison for ‘hires’ / co-productions are efficient and that the post holder ‘leads’ on load-in, load outs and manages all inventories involving the agent handling / organising the method of shipment.
  • Ensure the adherence to government transport regulations and all current relevant legislation. Ensure all relevant licences and permits are current. Ensure the maintenance of tachograph records.
  • Manage an efficient maintenance programme for ENO vehicles taking into account peak and off-peak requirements, both owned and leased, ensuring that required standards are met, and initiate plans for the development of resources for the Department.
  • Oversee the Driver/Supervisor’s planning of the department’s workload, rotas and overtime requirements.


  • In conjunction with the Technical Director, manage, develop, organise and proactively monitor the distribution and safe storage of productions and equipment, using the advance schedules received from the Technical Office, ensuring quality of operation and a high standard of housekeeping. Liaise with the Head of Capital Estates as necessary, taking local responsibility regarding the physical environment at our stores in Marden, Kent and Stonelake, Charlton, London.
  • Be responsible for all Health and Safety operations and requirements of all necessary work required for the physical property of Marden, Kent and Stonelake, Charlton, London.
  • In conjunction with the Technical Director, constantly revise storage requirements, provision of available storage space and the best possible practice incorporating any ‘Green Theatre Book’ recycling methods for the “deading of shows” and recycling of elements of existing shows.
  • Ensure that all the productions and equipment are packed in a safe and orderly manner, and everything is accounted for and all storage plans updated on a regular basis.
  • Ensure each show has a comprehensive inventory of photographs, handling weights, condition of items, and that prop items are stored in protective boxes, crates, or wrappings to protect them for future use.

Health and Safety

  • Ensure the provision of a safe working environment, adhering to the Company’s Health and Safety Policy at all times.
  • Carry out risk assessments as required and devise safe working practices as necessary.
  • Ensure that appropriate safety clothing is provided and worn at all times.


  • Ensure that excellent customer service standards and overall discipline are maintained within the Department.
  • Ensure effective communication within the Transport and Stores department by attending weekly Advanced Technical Scheduling Meetings and holding weekly meetings within your team and by being approachable by the team on a daily basis.
  • Assess the work performance and the need for the training and development of staff within the department as and provide training as necessary.
  • Identify staffing needs and undertake the recruitment process as necessary, in conjunction with the Personnel department.
  • Liaise with the Head of Technical Services about the scheduling of external contractors as required.


  • Be able to proactively plan, monitor and control budgets for the Transport, Logistics and Stores department
  • Transport budgets – Necessary transport costs against the Technical / Cards schedule, maintenance of vehicles and trailers, MoT, servicing, Fuel costs, Tax, seasonal drivers
  • ‘Deading’ production budgets – necessary staff and related disposal costs against productions
  • Hire – Necessary staff required to load-in and load out incoming as well as outgoing productions
  • Monitor and act upon the performance management of the drivers
  • Excellent asset tracking of items of sets, props and misc. closely, involving the drivers
  • Proactively plan for improving the storage at Marden and Stonelake using the best and most efficient possible methods of storage and asset management systems necessary.
  • Carry out any other duties that are relevant to the post.
  • Carry out driving duties as required.
