Chris Hopkins is a conductor and pianist engaged on a wide range of projects across many disciplines. He holds a Masters in British Music and completed his studies at the Royal Academy of Music, where he was honoured to have been made an Associate in 2013.

Career Highlights

With Iolanthe, he made his ENO main stage debut, alongside work this season at Garsington Opera, Grange Festival Opera, other ENO productions and concerts at St Martin-in-the-Fields, Cadogan Hall, St John’s, Smith Square and others. Previously he has performed with BBC Symphony Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, WNO, NI Opera, Grange Park Opera, Opera Holland Park, Wide Open Opera, Glyndebourne, Garsington Opera, Presteigne and Aldeburgh Festivals, London Mozart Players, Crash Ensemble, Birdgang Ltd, and live and recorded appearances on BBC1 and BBC Radios 2, 3 and 4.

Equally at home on the concert stage as in the pit, he is principal conductor of English Sinfonia and Orchestra of the City. He continues into a ninth season as Musical Director of Orchestra of the City and is in demand with a wide range of ensembles as conductor and soloist.

Notable engagements elsewhere: Presteigne and Aldeburgh Festivals, London Mozart Players, Crash Ensemble, Royal Ballet Sinfonia, Blaze Ensemble, Corinthians Chamber Orchestra and he has premiered and commissioned works by composers including Colin Matthews, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, David Matthews, Thomas Hyde, Detlev Glanert, Gilad Hochman and the Pet Shop Boys.

Awards and achievements: He was honoured in 2013 to be made an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music.
