Folkington Manor
Folkington Manor (pronounced Fo’ington) is a picturesque Grade II listed country home in East Sussex. The Manor was built in 1843 by the architect William John Donthorn, near the site of a manor that was recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086.
Previous residents of Folkington Manor include Rupert Gwynne, MP for Eastbourne 1910-24 and father of food writer Elizabeth Davi who later inherited the house.
Folkington itself has long had a close connection with the arts for centuries. The Long Man of Wilmington stands in the distance on Windover Hill, and even a memorial to one of the 20th Century’s most gifted musicians Violet Gordon Woodhouse can be found at the local church.
Purchased by Dr Harry (ENO Chair) & Jacquie Brunjes in 2010, Folkington Manor has undergone a complete restoration, returning it back to “the quality, and a bravura that recalls that of Baroque” (Country Life, 1958).
Set in 85 acres of parkland, we couldn’t think of anywhere better for a summer picnic celebration.
