Support the Nicholas Folwell Scholarship Appeal
In April 2024 we lost a dear member of the ENO family – Baritone Nicholas Folwell. During a long and distinguished career Nicholas performed over 130 roles, ranging from Mozart, Rossini, Verdi and Wagner, to several world premières, including the title role in Judith Weir’s Blond Eckbert; Mutius in Timon of Athens by Stephen Oliver and Mr van Tricasse in Dr Ox’s Experiment by Gavin Bryars – all for English National Opera.
Elsewhere he sang Koroviev in the world premiere of York Höller’s Der Meister und Margarita at the Opéra de Paris; and several roles in the World Première of The Trial by Philip Glass for Music Theatre Wales. As well as being a fine singer, Nicholas was also a knowledgeable teacher and, more recently, an excellent diction coach.
We are fundraising in Nicholas’ memory, to ensure that his legacy of sharing his vast operatic knowledge and experience is felt by the next generation of Baritones.
Please consider making a donation to the Nicholas Folwell Scholarship Appeal. All donations are gift-aid eligible, and will support the training, mentoring and coaching of a young, emerging Baritone with our ENO Harewood Artists programme this season.
Dan D’Souza is the inaugural recipient of the Nicholas Folwell Scholarship.
