Alan Opie has performed with all the major UK opera companies and at the Metropolitan Opera, New York, Bayreuth, Paris, Amsterdam, Chicago, La Scala, Munich, Berlin, Vienna, Los Angeles, Oslo, Brussels, Saito Kinen Festival in Japan, Tokyo, Beijing, Strasbourg, Florence, Toronto, Washington, Philadelphia, San Diego and Sydney. Concerts include New York, Paris, Chicago, Dallas, Sydney, Madrid, Lisbon, Cologne, Istanbul, Israel, Turin, Boston, Gothenburg and Helsinki.

Previously for ENO: The Pathologist Jack the Ripper: The Women of Whitechapel, Giorgio Germont La traviata, Dr Bartolo The Barber of Seville.

 

Career Highlights

Notable engagements elsewhere: Gamekeeper Rusalka, Arbace Idomeneo (Metropolitan Opera, New York); Giorgo Germont La traviata (Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, Lisbon); Frank Die Fledermaus (WNO)

Awards and achievements: He won Grammies for his recordings of Balstrode Peter Grimes and of Beckmesser Die Meistersinger (with Solti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra), and has made a successful solo recording of ‘Bel Canto Arias’. He received an Olivier nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Opera for his Falstaff at ENO. He received an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2013.
