Charles Edwards was born in Newcastle upon Tyne and studied design in London. He is both a director and a designer.

Previously for ENO: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Makropulos Case, Jenůfa, Lucia di Lammermoor, Katya Kabanova.

Career Highlights

Notable design engagements elsewhere: Gloriana (Madrid); Kiss Me, Kate (Châtelet, Paris); Il trovatore (Chicago, San Francisco, Metropolitan Opera); Adriana Lecouvreur (ROH, Paris Bastille, Vienna, Barcelona); Faust (ROH, Monte Carlo, Lille, Trieste, Valencia, Australia); Werther (ROH, Paris Bastille); and several for other major British opera houses. European work includes operas in Berlin, Stuttgart, Darmstadt, Mannheim, Karlsruhe, Paris, Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Metz, Barcelona, Lisbon, Göteborg, Copenhagen, Liège and Graz – and also in Israel. In North America his designs have been seen in Houston, Dallas, Long Beach and Chicago; and for Opera Australia in Sydney.
