Career Highlights

A series of outstanding debuts have highlighted British baritone Jonathan McGovern as an exciting talent to watch. In recent months he has debuted as Don Giovanni for Garsington Opera, Papageno for Staatsoper Hamburg in Jette Steckel’s new production of Die Zauberflöte under Jean-Christophe Spinosi and Kent Nagano, Pelléas in Barrie Kosky’s new production for the Komische Oper Berlin, and L’Orfeo in Barbora Horáková’s new production for Teatro Arriaga, Bilbao.

This season he continues to expand his core repertoire, making his anticipated role debut as Count Almaviva Le nozze di Figaro (WNO, conducted by Carlo Rizzi). Elsewhere he reprises the role of Andrei in WNO’s production of War and Peace at ROH, as well as Don Giovanni (Orchestre de chambre de Paris at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées). In concert he sings Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen and Das Lied von der Erde with the Natalia Ensemble in Madrid and the former with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra under Lawrence Foster. In addition, he joins the Early Opera Company on tour singing Rameau’s Castor et Pollux conducted by Christian Curnyn.
