South Korean double bassist Kai Kim studied at the Purcell School of Music from the age of 13 and performed at the BBC Proms under the baton of Edward Gardner and Sir Mark Elder as part of the National Youth Orchestra.
Kai graduated with a First Class Honours in Bachelor of Music at the Royal Academy of Music, and received the Regency Award for outstanding achievement as well as winning 1st Prize in the RAM Double Bass Competition in 2018 and 2020. Kai was also a member of the London Symphony Orchestra’s String Experience in 2018.
Professionally, Kai has regularly performed with the ENO, Royal Opera House, London Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonia Orchestra, with whom he toured throughout Europe. He has also been invited to play with Spira Mirabilis and Glyndebourne Touring Opera and will take part in the prestigious Moritzburg Festival Academy in 2021.
