After completing a Master’s degree in music history, mass media and literature and studying lighting design at Studio and Forum of Stage Design, New York, he became resident lighting designer for William Forsythe’s Ballet Frankfurt in 1990, where his most important visual influences were generated.

After several years as resident lighting designer at Oper Frankfurt, he also held the position of Technical Director for both Opera and Drama House Frankfurt.

Career Highlights

He has created lighting designs for Ensemble Modern (Frank Zappa’s Yellow Shark), Opéra national de Paris, Salzburger Festspiele, ROH, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Teatro Real Madrid, La Scala, and the Berliner Staatsoper among many others.

He collaborates regularly with directors Christoph Marthaler, Claus Guth and numerous times with Christof Loy, most recently on Così fan tutte (Salzburg), Salome (Helsinki) and Die Schatzgräber (Deutsche Oper Berlin).
