Headshot of ENO Orchestra member, Terry Nettle

Terry Nettle

Viola

When did you join?
I joined in 2000.

Favourite ENO opera?
The sparkling brilliance of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro is a complete joy to play. The grandeur of Wagner’s Meistersingers Overture has always been a favourite and I love the sound world of Berg’s Lulu.

Best ENO moment?
I’m a mentor on the Evolve scheme which brings students from the RCM into the orchestra to participate in rehearsals and get an idea of what the profession expects of them. I’m always very pleased when I see former participants who have successfully made it into the profession.

How did you start?
I started the violin at age seven. However, when I was about 16, there was a lack of viola players around in Cornwall so thought I’d have a go. The rest is history.

Passion outside of opera?
Passion outside opera at the moment is pottery.
