Week Three

Daily exercise for week three - finding space to breathe

Watch the clip below and follow along with Suzi to explore some gentle ways to soften tension in the neck and shoulders, helping you to find space to breathe more effectively. The film mirrors the way we have been working together in our sessions.

Try to watch this video and try these exercises every day. You might find this easier if you aim to do them at the same time each day. You can also find this video on the Breath work – first steps page.

Music for week three

This week we re-visited Abiyoyo – a simple lullaby that repeats one word; the name Abiyoyo – and we learned a lullaby in which the singer is dreaming up all the things that will be given to the baby when it wakes.

Lullabies for you to sing: Abiyoyo and All The Pretty Horses

You can access all the resources and information for Abiyoyo in Lullabies, first steps.

About All the Pretty Horses:  It is widely believed that this lullaby was originally sung by an enslaved woman looking after her master’s baby. There is an additional verse, possibly added later than the first that is not included in the version we sang together. To explore the song and its history further, follow this link here.

A lullaby to listen to: Méditation de Thaïs, Massenet

Listen to Méditation performed by Nicola Benedetti here.

In the Massenet’s opera, Thaïs, this music accompanies Thaïs’s meditation as she considers the meaning of faith and thinks about whether she wants to change the direction of her life.

You will also find this music in the calming playlist created especially for ENO Breathe. [link to Calming Playlist page]
