ENO Outside (Summer 2017)

13th April 2017 in News

Our 2016/17 opera season at the London Coliseum has now drawn to a close. However, you can still enjoy performances from our Company, Chorus and Orchestra in a variety of different venues over the summer months.

Our award-winning Chorus and Orchestra are currently performing in Carousel, which is at the London Coliseum until 13 May.

ENO Studio Live runs from 26 May – 31 May at our rehearsal studios in West Hampstead. ENO Studio Live is part of our investment in talent development. We have created a series of performances that enable our Staff Directors to create and deliver their own fully staged productions within a studio environment. It also allows scope for members of the ENO Chorus to take on principal roles. Performances of Jonathan Dove’s The Day After will take place from 26-31 May, with Gilbert and Sullivan’s Trial by Jury in performance from 3-6 June.

Hackney Empire and English National Opera present the European premiere of Charlie’s Parker’s YARDBIRD on the 9 June. Running at Hackney Empire until 17 June, Charlie Parker’s YARDBIRD is a jazz-infused chamber ‘be-bopera’ by Daniel Schnyder with libretto by award-winning African-American poet Bridgette A. Wimberly. Lawrence Brownlee stars as the legendary saxophonist.

On 1 and 2 July we are excited to present two performances of Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius at the Royal Festival Hall. Conducted by Simone Young, the ENO Chorus and Orchestra as well as the BBC Singers are joined by principal singers Gwyn Hughes Jones, Patricia Bardon and Matthew Rose. Using innovative designs by Lucy Carter, the emotional journey of Gerontius is told through music and light.

ENO’s opera season at the London Coliseum resumes at the end of September. Our 2017/18 season is announced at 10.00 on 27 April.
