Netflix and the ENO announce the launch of an opera based on Tiger King created entirely on TikTok.

Co-produced by ENO, the ‘TikTopera’ follows the events of Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness (season 1) through original arias set to the iconic music of French composer Georges Bizet‘s 1875 masterpiece ‘Carmen‘.

Backed by ENO’s 40 person professional Chorus and award-winning orchestra, the cast includes TikTok superstars Sophia Aurora, Hellovicco, Hannah Lowther alongside X-Factor finalists Max and Harvey and Britain’s Got Talent comedian Phil Green.

The Tiktoks went live on 15 November on each TikTok creator’s channel ahead of the launch of Tiger King 2, on Netflix from 17 November.

The collaboration came about through mutual recognition of the thematic similarities between Tiger King and many of the operas performed by the ENO.

The ‘Tiktopera’ is split into a five-act structure, each song covers the complex interconnected stories following the twists, turns, reveals and revelations that made Tiger King one of the most-watched shows on Netflix.

Both Netflix and the ENO are committed to bringing people dramatic stories that delight, excite and get audiences talking. Historically, opera told dramatic stories as a form of pure entertainment to the masses across Europe and eventually the world. Over time, as musical tastes have changed, so have the mediums in which these stories are enjoyed, the latest being TikTok.
