Sam Brown has been Artistic Director of the Nederlandse Reisopera, the Dutch national touring opera company, since September 2024.
He began his career at Opera North as Assistant Director, and in 2011 he won the Ring Award and the European Opera Directing Prize.
He made his professional opera debut for the Bavarian State Opera with Sigurd the Dragonslayer by Andy Pape, and he directed Jakob Lenz for ENO in 2012.
He has directed more than thirty productions of operas across Europe including Pique Dame (Deutsche Oper Berlin), La Clemenza di Tito (Theater an der Wien), Parsifal (Opera North), The Barber of Seville (WNO), and the world scenic premiere of Gerald Barry’s The Importance of Being Earnest (Opéra National de Lorraine).
