Taking place during The Year of Russian Culture in the UK, The Russian Ballet Icons Gala 2014 will be a special retrospective performance telling the 'Story of Russian Ballet', which will combine performances from the best living masters of ballet with a complete history of the genre.
The gala will feature famous excerpts from the classical repertoire of the greatest figures from Russian Ballet’s history and masterpieces by leading contemporary choreographers, performed by the premier star dancers of the Bolshoi, Mariinsky, Royal Ballet, English National Ballet, ballets of the Grand Opera Paris, Berlin Staatsoper and New York City Ballet.
The evening will tell the quintessential account of Russia’s love affair with this highest of art forms and the stories of some of history’s greatest artists. The Russian ballet icons celebrated at all the previous galas will be represented in this stunning retrospective, including Maya Plisetskaya, Yuri Grigorovich, Maris Liepa, Rudolph Nureyev, Sergei Diagelev, Galina Ulanova, Anna Pavlova and Vaslav Nijinsky.
Performances will be accompanied by the Orchestra of English National Ballet.
