British Baritone Christopher Purves is renowned for his commanding stage presence and impeccable musicianship, captivating audiences worldwide throughout his illustrious career.
Through his celebrated interpretations of a diverse and eclectic range of roles and repertoire, Purves is in great demand with many prestigious theatres around the world, working with orchestras, conductors and directors of the highest calibre.
Highlights of Purves’ 2025/26 season include his return to Teatro dell’Opera di Roma as Tsagro in Saariaho’s Adriana Mater, the recording of which won a Grammy in 2025 for Best Opera Recording, the title role in Handel’s Saul for Köln Oper and Alberich in Wagner’s Siegfried at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. On the concert platform, Purves will sing the title role in Saul with Arcangelo and perform in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with The Bach Choir.
Last season’s highlights included Alberich in Wagner’s Das Rheingold in the new Ring Cycle directed by Barrie Kosky for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and for Zurich Opera House, the Forester in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen for the Canadian Opera Company and the title role in Handel’s Saul for the Royal Danish Theatre. On the concert platform, Purves performed Sharpless in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly with the CBSO under Kazuki Yamada, Méphistophélès in Berlioz’s La damnation de Faust with the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest cond. Karina Canellakis and returned to the BBC Proms for Beethoven 9 with the Aurora Orchestra.
