Amanda Holden


Amanda Holden first worked at ENO (with Anthony Holden) when they translated Don Giovanni for Mark Elder and Jonathan Miller (1985). Since then she has written c.50 translations, many commissioned by ENO.


Career Highlights

Amanda’s librettos include Bliss for Brett Dean (Opera Australia), and The Silver Tassie (ENO) for Mark-Anthony Turnage (Olivier Award, Outstanding Achievement in Opera, 2001).

She is also founder-editor of the Viking/Penguin Opera Guides. 

Translations: Handel’s Rodelinda and Partenope, Rameau’s Castor and Pollux (Olivier Award nomination, 2012) and Glanert’s Caligula. For 2018 she has translated Gluck’s Orpheus and Euridice (Opera Theatre St Louis) and Pascal Dusapin’s Passion (UK premiere, Music Theatre Wales)
