Born Australia, an alumnus of Manchester’s RNCM and The Royal Opera Covent Garden’s Young Artists Programme, Hubert Francis appears on the operatic stages and concert platforms of Adelaide, Amsterdam, Bregenz, Brno, Edinburgh, Geneva, Helsinki, London, Los Angeles, Manchester, New York, Palermo, Paris, San Francisco, Singapore, Sydney, Tel Aviv & Toronto amongst others.

Career Highlights

Roles include Aegist (Elektra), Chairman Mao (Nixon in China), Captain & Drum Major (Wozzeck), Herod (Salome), Luka Kuzmic (House of the Dead), Marquis (The Gambler), Shuisky (Boris Godunov), Terry Bond (Playing Away), Yannakos (The Greek Passion) & Vítek (The Makropoulos Case), working with conductors Benini, Bychkov, Ettinger, Pappano & Salonen ; and directors Guth, Jones, Loy, McVicar & Pountney. His more than 200 Royal Opera House Covent Garden appearances include Male Chorus (The Rape of Lucretia), Lucas (The Exterminating Angel), Laïos (Oedipe) & Hunchback Brother (Die Frau ohne Schatten).

Season 2022/23 credits include Herod at The Bergen International Festival conducted by Ed Gardner, Spoletta (Tosca) at Covent Garden & Loge (Das Rheingold) in Opera Australia’s forthcoming new Ring Cycle.
