Simon Bailey was born in England and has lived in Frankfurt since 2002. With a repertoire of more than 100 major opera roles and 50 oratorio works he has proved himself one of the most versatile bass-baritones of his generation.

Engagements last season included: Wotan Das Rheingold and Die Walküre (Erl, Austria); Figaro Le nozze di Figaro (La Scala); Leporello Don Giovanni (ROH); Don Pasquale (Saarbrücken); Achila Giulio Cesare (Vienna); Jochanaan Salome (Stuttgart) and Mizoguchi Kinkakuji (Strasbourg).
Recent concert appearances include Messiah (Royal Albert Hall, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Musikverein, Vienna), Gurnemanz Parsifal (Bochum) and Elijah (Giessen and Wetzlar).
Further engagements include: Wotan/Wanderer in the complete Ring cycle (Tiroler Festspiele, Erl); Wotan Das Rheingold, conducted by Kent Nagano (Dresden, Lucerne and Ravello)
Awards include: He was voted ‘Wales Singer of the Year’ in 2018 for his performance as Šiškov From the House of the Dead in Cardiff. He won first prize in the 2005 Rome International Oratorio competition.
