William Cole is confident interpreter of music from Baroque opera to works by today’s leading composers.

Notable recent and future performances include debuts with Scottish Opera (Britten’s Albert Herring), English National Opera (Verdi’s Rigoletto) the Royal Opera Covent Garden’s production of Philip Venables’ 4.48 Psychosis at the Prototype Festival New York, and his concert debut with the LPO. He has a particularly close relationship with Britten Sinfonia, with whom he has appeared regularly as a guest conductor.

William enjoys a growing reputation as an exponent of late 20th century and contemporary music. Recognised for his ‘precise direction’ (The Times), his early training as a composer allows him to bring insight to the most complex scores. His interest in baroque opera has led to engagements as a harpsichordist with ensembles including the OAE, English Concert, RSNO and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, and collaborations with conductors including Laurence Cummings, Harry Bicket, Christian Curnyn and Nicholas McGegan.

William’s collaborative instincts have led to a natural musical home in the opera house. He has worked as guest music staff for the Royal Opera Covent Garden, English National Opera, Opera North, Dutch National Opera, Opéra National du Rhin, and the Glyndebourne, Garsington and Aldeburgh Festivals.
