Iphigénie en Tauride is based on the Greek drama of the same name by Euripides. In the aftermath of the Trojan War, Iphigénie survives an attempted killing in a sacrifice. She then becomes a priestess forced to conduct rituals on the island of Tauris. When her captured victims turn out to be her brother Orestes and his friend Pylades, the siblings recognize each other and plan an escape.
