Claire Mitcher soprano (Jenny’s Girl) studied English Literature and was a choral scholar at Cambridge University. Formerly a pupil of Marion Studholme, she has been a member of the ENO chorus since 1998 where she has performed and understudied numerous roles, notably taking lead roles in ENO Studio Live’s performances of The Day After and Paul Bunyan. Mainstage roles include Eurydice Orphée; First and Second Flowermaiden Parsifal; Bridesmaid Der Freischütz; Dunyasha The Tsar’s Bride; Crobyle Thaïs; New Ofglen The Handmaid’s Tale; First Secretary Nixon in China; Servilia La Clemenza di Tito; Fifteen-year-old girl Lulu; Karolka/Barena Jenůfa; Barbarina/Bridesmaid The Marriage of Figaro; Trojan Woman/Cretan Idomeneo; Jacky Kennedy/Paquette Candide; Soprano solo Turandot; Italian woman Medea; Soprano solo Thebans; Musetta La Bohème; Frasquita Carmen; First Lady, Pamina Magic Flute; High Priestess Aida.
She enjoys a varied career balancing her performing career with work in outreach, both for ENO and the Royal Ballet and Opera where she recently stepped in last minute to perform Rusalka in the Clore Theatre. She is a regular member of their Learning and Participation department and has worked in the RBO chorus, most recently in Tosca. For Opera Holland Park and Solace Women’s Aid she produced a series of singing projects in a women’s refuge. She is qualified in vocal health and is actively continuing her studies in vocal pedagogy to further her teaching. She continues her own vocal studies with John Lattimore and Samuel Queen.
