Indian Baritone Darwin Prakash is the recipient of the Queen’s Commendation for Excellence Award at the Royal Academy of Music in London (RAM), the Gus Christie Award at Glyndebourne Opera and the past winner of National Mozart Competition, UK.

He was recently elected as the Associate of RAM in recognition of his contribution to Western Classical Music and Opera.

Recent highlights include, role and house debut at Glyndebourne Opera performing Schaunard in La Boheme, Bass Soloist in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony performed with South Asian Symphony Orchestra in Bangalore, India, debut at Longborough Festival Opera singing Marcello in La Boheme  and debut at Staatsoper Stuttgart as Chou Enlai in John Adam’s Nixon in China.

As a Principal baritone at Staatsoper Hannover in Germany until 2025, he made a string of important role debuts such as Figaro in il Barbiere di Siviglia, Marcello in La Boheme, Papageno in Die Zauberflote, Conte Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro and premiered the roles of Chou Enlai in Nixon in China, Silvio in I Pagliacci and the Baritone solo in Ted Huffman and Philip Venables’ opera Denis and Katya.

He has also performed at Royal Opera House Mumbai, London Handel Festival, Waterperry Opera Festival, Opera Holland Park and Clonter Opera.

Equally adept in concert and recital world, Darwin has performed Songs of War recital at St. James’ Church  Piccadilly, London, Finzi Bluthner Recital at Guernsey performing songs by Gerald Finzi, soloist in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony at Marlborough College and Handel’s Messiah at Arundel Cathedral.

Hailing from Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu, India, Darwin Prakash grew up in Delhi where he graduated with Bachelors in Geology from University of Delhi in 2014. In the same year, he was discovered by the renowned British vocal pedagogue Dr. Robert Alderson whilst his visit to Delhi, who now continues to be his mentor and teacher.

Darwin graduated from the Royal Academy of Music, London with Masters in Performance and Advanced Diploma in Opera under the tutelage of Prof. Mark Wildman.

Future productions will see him make his debuts in Austria and USA.
