British bass David Shipley is a graduate of the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
Highlights of the 2025-26 season see David make his house debut with the Opéra Orchestre National Montpellier as Pistola in Falstaff, a further house and role debut at English National Opera as Alaska Wolf Joe in Jamie Manton’s new production of Rise & Fall of the City of Mahagonny along with a return to Grange Park Opera as Fafner in Das Rheingold. On the concert platform Shipley will debut with Opera Rara in a recording and performance of La Rondine as Perichaud.
Recent highlights include: Truffaldino in Ariadne auf Naxos (Opéra de Rouen, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and Festival d’Aix en Provence); Sparafucile in Rigoletto (Theater Basel, Scottish Opera and Houston Grand Opera); Somnus in Semele (Komische Oper Berlin); John Pinney, Alexander Morris, Pin-Striped Man in Will Todd’s Migrations (Welsh National Opera), Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Scottish Opera, Teatro Carlo Felice & Royal Opera House Muscat); Dr Grenvil in La traviata (The Royal Opera House) Harapha in Samson (London Handel Festival); Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte (Glyndebourne Festival Opera); Prince Tokmakov in Ivan the Terrible and Monk in Don Carlo (Grange Park Opera).
