Hubert Francis’ recent appearances include Basilio and Don Curzio The Marriage of Figaro and Count Albert The Dead City both at ENO, his return to The Royal Opera Covent Garden to revive his renowned portrayal of Spoletta Tosca, a role in which he can be seen on the DVD with Angela Gheorghiu, Jonas Kaufmann and Bryn Terfel, and his great success as Loge Das Rheingold in the new Ring production at Opera Australia.
Other highlights include: Herod Salome with Bergen Philharmonic, Israeli Opera, and State Opera of South Australia; Chairman Mao Nixon in China for Opera Wide Open’s inaugural production in Dublin; his Shuisky Boris Godunov with the Philharmonia (C: Jakub Hrůša) at Royal Festival Hall won excellent critical acclaim.
His roles in Wozzeck include Hauptmann in the acclaimed David McVicar production at Finnish National Opera, (a role he previously sang at the Helsinki Festival), and Tambourmajor on tour with the Philharmonia (C: Esa-Pekka Salonen), appearing at Disney Hall in Los Angeles, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, Konzerthaus in Dortmund, and Avery Fisher Hall in New York.
Mr Francis enjoys a long relationship with The Royal Opera Covent Garden, beginning his professional career there in 2002-04 as a member of the young artist programme.
