Jacques Imbrailo is a South African baritone acclaimed for his compelling stage presence and vocal artistry.

A winner of the Audience Prize at BBC Cardiff Singer of the World, he has since performed at leading opera houses including the Royal Opera House, Teatro Real Madrid, Bayerische Staatsoper, Opera national de Paris and the Metropolitan Opera. 

Recent and upcoming highlights include: his Salzburg Festival debut as Andrei in Tre Sestri, Eugene Onegin at Opéra national de Lorraine, Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte at Staatsoper Hamburg, and Tadeusz in The Passenger at Bayerische Staatsoper.

He returns to the Royal Opera House as Ned Keene (Peter Grimes), Teatro Real as Demetrius (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) and Bregenz Festival for the world premiere of Daniel Bjarnason’s Passion of the Common Man. 

  

Other notable roles include: Don Giovanni in new productions at Malmö Opera and Opera Oviedo, Il Conte Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro) at Hamburg Staatsoper and Royal Opera House, Yeletsky (Pikovaya Dama) at La Monnaie, and Chou En-lai (Nixon in China) at Teatro Real. He created Joachim Messner in Bel Canto at Lyric Opera of Chicago and sang Horatio in Hamlet at Glyndebourne, Bayerische Staatsoper, and the Met. 

Renowned for his signature role as Billy Budd, Imbrailo’s portrayal has been praised at Glyndebourne, Royal Opera House, Teatro Real, Dutch National Opera, and BAM, affirming his status as one of today’s most versatile baritones.
