Theatre director, lyricist and translator of plays and opera libretti as well as a composer, orchestrator and musical director, Jeremy Sams is the ultimate polymath.
His opera translations include The Marriage of Figaro, The Magic Flute, Mahagonny, Don Giovanni, La Bohème and Wagner’s Ring Cycle (ENO); Chabrier’s L’etoile, The Reluctant King and Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld (Opera North) and Weill’s Threepenny Opera (Donmar Warehouse). The Merry Widow (ROH and Met new York) Jeremy devised and wrote The Enchanted Island and translated & directed Die Fledermaus for The Metropolitan Opera, New York. He also provided the lyrics for Michel Legrand’s Amour.
As a composer he has written and arranged music for over fifty shows for Theatre, TV and radio, including: The Wind in the Willows & Arcadia (RNT); The Merry Wives of Windsor (RSC); The Mother (BBC); Enduring Love (Ivor Novello award) and Jane Austen’s Persuasion (BAFTA award).
Work as a theatre director includes The Sound of Music & The Wizard of Oz (West End), Noises Off (National Theatre, West End and Broadway).
