This season, British-American tenor Joshua Blue returns ENO to reprise the character of Ferrando in Così fan tutte with multi-award-winning director Phelim McDermott together with conductor Dinis Sousa for performances in London and Manchester; and to the Metropolitan Opera to reprise his role of Tamino in The Magic Flute; LA Phil for Mozart’s Requiem and a solo chamber concert with a commissioned of Nicolás Lell Benavides, titled Sueño en mi sueño, based on Pablo Neruda poems; and Cathedral of St. John the Divine for Beethoven’s Symphony #9.
He makes debuts in France performing a staged version of Verdi’s Requiem with Opéra national de Lorraine as well as Austin Opera and Opera North (UK) for Rodolfo in La bohème.
Mr. Blue has been engaged by the Royal Opera House, Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Opera, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Washington National Opera, National Symphony Orchestra, Houston Grand Opera, American Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Opera, Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival, San Diego Opera, and Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, collaborating with conductors Antonio Pappano, Fabio Luisi, James Conlon, Gianandrea Noseda, Eun Sun Kim, James Gaffigan, Carlo Rizzi, Bertrand de Billy, Bernard Labadie, Corrado Rovaris, Leon Botstein, and Leonard Slatkin.
He was the inaugural recipient of the Lotos Foundation’s James McCracken and Sandra Warfield Opera Prize in 2020. He appears on recordings of Moravec’s Sanctuary Road with New York Festival of Song subsequently nominated for a 2021 Grammy Award; Tesori’s contemporary opera Blue with Washington National Opera; Heggie’s Intelligence in collaboration with Houston Grand Opera for which he sang the world-premiere performances; and a solo album titled Black and Blue with pianist and longtime collaborator Steven Blier featuring music of Paul Simon, Fats Waller, Stevie Wonder, and more.
