Praised for their “strong presence and a powerful, supple tenor” (The Guardian), Ru Charlesworth is in high demand on both the operatic stage and concert platform.
Highlights of the 2025–26 season include Lurcanio in Ariodante (Opéra national de Paris); Emilio in Partenope (English National Opera); Flute in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Teatro Real); and Tanzmeister in Ariadne auf Naxos and Maintop in Billy Budd (Glyndebourne Festival). Future seasons feature returns to the Royal Opera House and Glyndebourne, alongside a debut at Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
Recent roles include the Witch of Endor in Saul, Don Basilio in Le nozze di Figaro, and Sellem in The Rake’s Progress (Glyndebourne); Oronte in Alcina (Opéra national de Paris; Royal Opera House); Tanzmeister, Lysander, and Damon (Festival d’Aix-en-Provence); Bob Boles in Peter Grimes (Theater an der Wien); Prinz in The Love for Three Oranges and Jonathan in Saul (Komische Oper Berlin).
On the concert platform, Ru has appeared with the London Philharmonic Orchestra in Mozart’s Mass in C minor and Haydn’s Paukenmesse, with ENO as Lord Darnley in Mary, Queen of Scots, and in works by Bach, Handel, and George Benjamin with leading European orchestras.
