A 2018 graduate of the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House, New Zealand tenor Thomas Atkins is fast becoming a much sought-after artist on the international scene. Praised for his “tenorial heroism” (Opera Magazine) and as a consummate actor and musician, he is already enjoying a thriving career with recent successful debuts at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Opéra de Montpellier, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Opéra national de Paris, Royal Danish Opera, the Barbican (with the London Symphony Orchestra and BBC Symphony Orchestra), and New Zealand Opera.
Career Highlights
Atkins’ 2025–26 highlights include his highly anticipated company debut, returning to the role of Andrej Chowanskij Khovanshchina; a return to the Salzburg Easter Festival as Froh in a new production of Das Rheingold under the baton of Kirill Petrenko; and Ralph in HMS Pinafore with English National Opera. On the concert platform, he makes his debut with the Orchestre de Paris under the baton of Klaus Mäkelä as Hémon in Pascal Dusapin’s world premiere of Antigone; performs Froh Das Rheingold in concert with the Berliner Philharmoniker at the Berliner Philharmonie; appears as the tenor soloist in The Dream of Gerontius with the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra; and sings Števa in Act II of Jenůfa in concert with the Bamberg Symphony conducted by Jakub Hrůša.
