Yesterday, the government published the independent Hodge Review of Arts Council England.

Led by Baroness Margaret Hodge, the review looks at how Arts Council England operates, including its governance, decision-making and relationship with the sector.

Jenny Mollica, Chief Executive of English National Opera said:

“English National Opera (ENO) welcomes Baroness Hodge’s independent review of Arts Council England. We particularly support its key recommendations around the importance of upholding the arm’s length principle, the need to ensure that arts and cultural opportunities are accessible across the country and its call to support cultural enrichment opportunities for young people. We are also pleased to see clear sighted ambitions to support growth in the sector – including greater investment in infrastructure, incentivising giving and a new approach to Cultural Recovery Loans.

ENO was founded on the belief that artistic excellence and radical accessibility are not mutually exclusive – but one, shared purpose. Nearly 100 years on, we look forward to continuing to open up new possibilities for opera in people’s lives – in London, Greater Manchester and nationally – working closely with ACE, government and our sector partners to ensure that this review sets a positive agenda for change.”
