ENO wins at Olivier Awards

The 2016 Oliver Awards took place last night (3 April) at the Royal Opera House.

The ENO Orchestra and Chorus won the Outstanding Achievement in Opera award for their work on the productions of The Force of Destiny, Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk and The Queen of Spades.

Collecting the award on behalf of the ENO orchestra and chorus, ENO Head of Music Martin Fitzpatrick said, “I would like to salute every member of the chorus and orchestra, who, night after night, brilliantly channel their magnificent talents for the team”.

English National Opera dominated this category with nominations also for Dame Felicity Palmer for her role as the Countess in The Queen of Spades and Tamara Wilson for her performance as Leonora in The Force of Destiny.

Calixto Bieito’s production of The Force of Destiny was also nominated in the Best New Opera production category. That award was won by The Royal Opera’s production of Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci . Highlights of the ceremony were broadcast on ITV1.
