Herbert Murauer studied stage design at Mozarteum Salzburg and went on to create numerous stage designs for plays and operas at the Staatstheater Stuttgart, among others. 

He has been a freelance set and costume designer since 1996 and works regularly with Christof Loy.

Their joint productions include La Gioconda (Bremen), Manon, Lucia di Lammermoor, Don Carlo (Deutsche Oper am Rhein), Der Rosenkavalier, La Bohème (Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, Brussels), as well as Ariadne auf Naxos (Royal Opera House), Saul, Roberto Devereux (Bayerische Staatsoper) and other productions in Frankfurt, Grand Théâtre in Geneva, Det Kongelige Teater in Copenhagen, Los Angeles Opera, Teatro Real in Madrid, Rouen, and the Royal Opera House in Stockholm. 

He has also worked at the Glyndebourne Festival, the Nationale Opera Amsterdam, and in Seoul with Elijah Moshinsky.  

Cinderella is his ENO debut.
