Hong-Kong born British bass-baritone Freddie Tong’s concert and operatic repertoire spans from early Classical works to world-premieres. 

Recent engagements include Alberich GOTTERDAMMERUNG, Donner DAS RHEINGOLD, Hunding DIE WALKUERE and Caronte L’ORFEO at the Longborough Festival Opera, Zuniga CARMEN, the Mayor JENUFA and Baron Douphol LA TRAVIATA at English National Opera, the role of the Councilman in Missy Mazzoli’s BREAKING THE WAVES at the Edinburgh International Festival with Scottish Opera, and on tour to the Adelaide Festival, Australia, Alberich SIEGFRIED & GOTTERDAMMERUNG  at London’s Hackney Empire,  Colline LA BOHEME, Der Sprecher DIE ZAUBERFLOETE and Dr. Grenvil LA TRAVIATA for Opera Hong Kong and Doc A QUIET PLACE at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

Upcoming roles include Frontier Guard (cover), Marquis LA TRAVIATA, Alcindoro LA BOHEME and Lo Zio Bonzo MADAMA BUTTERFLY for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and his role debut as Jokanaan SALOME.  

Other engagements include Nourabad THE PEARL FISHERS and Monterone RIGOLETTO for English National Opera, Dulcamara L’ELISIR D’AMORE and Dr. Bartolo  IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA for Grange Park Opera, Colline LA BOHEME, Der Sprecher DIE ZAUBERFLOETE, and Angelotti TOSCA for Opera Hong Kong, the Bong Tree THE OWL AND THE PUSSYCAT for the Royal Opera House and Masetto DON GIOVANNI for Opera Holland Park.

Freddie studied Music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, later undertaking post-graduate studies at their prestigious Opera School.  He has been a GSMD Gilbert & Sullivan Prize Finalist and also been awarded a Kathleen Ferrier Bursary Award for Young Singers.
